Cloud Storage

Introduce to Cloud Storage

Cloud storage is a model of networked online storage where data is stored in virtualized pools of storage which accessed through the Internet or a wide area network (WAN) connection that generally hosted by third parties.

Most of the public cloud storage company  only provide up to a certain amount of storage, then users may have to purchased or lease more storage as they needed.

Advantage of Using Cloud Storage:

1. Convince. You can access your information anywhere you have connection to the Internet.
2. Low Cost. Less expensive compare to purchasing hard drives.
3. Backups. Have a back up in case your computer crashed.
4. Collaboration. With permission, others can access, view, and modify your documents.
5. Environmentally Friendly. It takes fewer resources to store and saving energy.

Disadvantage of Using Cloud Storage:

1. Security Breaches. Since information are store via the Internet, there is a good chance for hackers to reach your information easily.
2. Outages. When the Internet service is down, you cannot get access to the document.
3. Storage Limits. Need to purchase for more storage.
4. Slow Speed. Uploading and downloading large documents may take a long time.
5. Limited Feature. Limited feature to use to manipulate and modify your data.

Looking Into the Future

Cloud storage is becoming widely adopted by employees of businesses, whether it’s allowed in company IT policy or not.This is a sign that businesses should look into either changing their IT policies, or cloud storage services such as Dropbox, should invest further into making their services as secure as possible.
